Agreed, Western AAA games are like polished classics. Like, say, Murakami with his postmodernism (which is actually very well calculated workflow satisfying his readers with topics they recognize and delight on this sensoric recognition). Same with such Big Scale games.
They are huge, they are perfect, and you feel lonely within its perfectness.
And also: Japanese AAA games have this auratic layer you cannot really explain. Playing “Shadow of Colossus” (and I kinda “finished” it) you still have time to enjoy the vista and adrenaline explosions fighting the monsters. But every time you’ve killed one, you experience deep remorse. Emotional.
Emotionality is the key why I love indie games. They can kill with a momentum. Like NaissanceE.
